Allergy Season: 10 Things You Can Do Around the House to Help

Is it us, or does allergy season seem to get worse every year? If you’ve tried everything and still are feeling no relief, maybe there are things that you haven’t tried yet. Sometimes something simple that you can do in your immediate surroundings can make the biggest difference. Your home is where you spend much of your time. Try the suggestions below and feel some relief this season!

Flooring: Remove carpeting and use hardwood, tile, or linoleum flooring and washable area rugs.

Rely on the AC: Close your windows and rely on air conditioning during pollen season.

Temperature and Humidity: Hot, humid houses are breeding grounds for dust mites and mold. Maintain the temperature between 68 F and 72 F and keep relative humidity no higher than 50 percent.

Remove Clutter: Remove items that collect dust. Store children’s toys, games, and stuffed animals in plastic bins.

Cleaning Routine: Follow this routine at least once a week: Damp-mop wood and hard floors, use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter, and clean all surfaces with a damp cloth. Wear a mask to reduce your exposure to allergens when cleaning.

Pets: Keep animals outdoors as much as possible and bathe them at least once a week and keep them out of the bedroom to reduce your exposure to allergens in the dander.

Air Filtration: Choose an air filter that has a small-particle or HEPA filter. Adjust your air filter so that it directs clean air toward your head when you sleep.

Potted Plants: Keep plants outdoors or spread aquarium gravel over the dirt to help contain mold.

Fireplaces: Avoid the use of wood-burning fireplaces or stoves because smoke and gasses can worsen respiratory allergies. Use natural gas instead.

Foundation, windows, and stairwells: Check for and repair any sources of leaks or water damage.

If you need help with Air Conditioning Maintenance or Air Filtration, contact us at Frog Air today. We are here to help in any way we can to relieve your allergies this season. https://www.frogair.com
